DIY Steampunk Mosaic Coasters
We like to make diy coaster, and we especially like to make them out of resin. The transparent resin makes the table coaster design really shine. If you have never tried resin before, don't be afraid. It's all about two parts of mixed resin. We will tell you how to do it!
For this project, we want to make tea coasters, but we can't find a base we like, and we can fix the sides in resin. Then we thought of the can lid. Cheap and perfect size! We painted our silver from the inside out.
Next, we made a mosaic design using glass tiles and small metal gears and things. We just glue them to the lid with permanent glue (you can use transparent silicone). We make each roller coaster a little different from the next.
For the resin, we used Envirotex Lite Pour-On Finish. To mix the resin, pour 3 ounces of curing agent in one cup and 3 ounces of resin in the other cup. Then pour the two parts together into the third cup. Stir thoroughly for two minutes, then pour the contents into the fourth cup and stir for another two minutes. Pour the resin on the mosaic.
About ten minutes after pouring the resin, small bubbles will appear. Exhale on the surface of the roller coaster to release bubbles. (The carbon dioxide in the exhaled breath releases bubbles.) Let the coaster cure in a dust-free area on a horizontal surface for 48 hours
We like the results of these steampunk coasters. Hope you can try to make it yourself!
